MOUNTAIN RESORTS

The Swiss alps are one of its three main physiographic regions with 65 % of the country covered in mountains which are given different terms such as Pre, Western and Eastern alps etc. Most of the highest mountains in Europe over 4000m are located In Switzerland with the Dufourspitze (4,634 m)and the Matterhorn (4,478 m) being the most famous.

The Alps attract thousands of visitors every year and the Swiss since the middle of the 19th Century have been providing the facilities so that visitors can reach the peaks easily and stay at several hotels at high altitudes. Winter naturally attracts winter sports such as skiing but resorts are also proving popular in the summer with thousands of hiking trails. Some of the main alpine resorts include Zermatt, Verbier, Wengen, Davos and St Moritz.
