A MORE DETAILED LOOK
Drive along the Brunig pass with an optional stop at Hergiswil Glasi and at Krammerstein on the banks of Lake Luzern. We head south to the Aare Gorge where glacial water has cut a deep gorge into the limestone cliffs which is hardly more than a metre wide at it`s narrowest point.
Or for an alternative, visit the Rosenlaui glacier gorge which has been attracting visitors to the waterfalls and tunnels to see glacial water crash to valley below.
Close by are the mystical Reichenbach Falls where in the book Sherlock Holmes is said to have perished.
After a short drive, follow the path and find yourself under the world famous Giessbach falls. Have lunch here at the majestic Giessbach Hotel. Take the optional funicular and boat to Brienz.
Brienz is our next stop to see some woodcarvers in action which this old lakeside town is famous for and its old houses dating back to the 17th century. An optional visit is the Brienz Wildpark which houses some of Switzerland’s indiginous animals
A stroll through Interlaken is normally next to watch the many paragliders land on this tourist hot spot.
We take the short drive to Lauterbrunnen for a scenic glimpse of one of the 72 waterfalls and the imposing U-shaped valley. If waterfalls are the motivation, then a trip to the Trummelbach Falls is possible where mountain waters drain from the 11,000 ft peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
Alternatively, a spectacular cable car leading to some breath-taking views is also accessible at Isenfluh to Sulwald where one can enjoy a drink and take in some of the best views in Switzerland.
TRIP ADVISOR REVIEW
My partner and I took a one-day tour with Chris this past week to the Bernese Highlands. However, I started communicating with Chris last November. He listened to my “wish list” and we continued to modify the tour up until the final day (laugh, Chris, about the cruise vs no cruise). Chris was extremely patient with all my questions and wanted to be sure we enjoyed the 7 hours+ together. And we did! The scenery is spectacular and the many places we went surprised us and contributed to a better understanding of the country. We saw waterfalls (too many to count), lunch at a gorgeous hotel sitting lakeside with a spectacular view, breathtaking mountains, adorable animals, unique small towns, glass and woodworking shops, and magnificent lakes. And throughout the entire day, Chris was a wonderful, funny, considerate guide. He allowed my partner and I to rest when we didn’t think we’d make the hills and presented us with options the entire day to ensure we had the most terrific tour imaginable. We usually book with a private driver when we travel. However, this time we booked with a “friend”. Don’t research any more companies—I did it for you—and connect with Chris. You won’t regret it.
