This past week, a group of friends and I had the most amazing experience With Chris Wilson on our curated tour from Lucerne to Jungfrau (The Top Of Europe) with stops in Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald. The tour's timing and execution were as flawless and efficient as a Swiss watch. Combine that operational excellence with the nicest, friendliest guy you'd ever want to meet, and you get Chris. From the historic bridges of the City of Lucerne and the nearby mountains and waters, to the best of the Bernese Oberland, including glassmaking in Hergiswil and wood carving in Brienz. Then on to Giessbach Falls, lunch on the deck of Grand Hotel Biessback, on to Aare Gorge (I call it little Yosemite), back over Brunig Pass. A morning in Zurich for chocolate tours and then the beauty of Lake Zurich. Many more beautiful villages, mountain passes and lakes. Throughout our 2 days, we enjoyed the ongoing discussions about Switzerland with Chris, who is totally entertaining and engaging. He knows the history and culture of Switzerland and its people, and enthusiastically shares it. Everywhere we went, they knew Chris. A wonderful guide to a beautiful country. The flexibility to customize the day made it feel much more personal than a typical tour. Every stop offered incredible scenery, from the breathtaking views atop Rigi to the beautiful lakeside villages and the unforgettable ride on the cog and gondola. Saw some of the “must dos” from the tour books but also some places we never would have found on our own. Definitely touring with Chris again when we come back to Luzern. We had an amazing full day tour with Chris fully exploring Wengen, Lauterbrunnen Valley, Isenfluh, Brienz and all the hidden gems that Chris took us to in the beautiful area of Switzerland. He was a master at helping us maximize the things we saw in the time we had available. We had a wonderful lunch at the Grand Hotel Giessbach, walked behind a waterfall, we saw wood carvers, hiked a portion of the Aare Gorge trail found memorable photo opportunities and so much more. He brought us to a variety of interesting/unique places, and put in his best effort to make the trip relaxing for everyone! He also tries to personalise the tour, giving us unexpected surprises. In fact, a visit to the Läderach factory in Bilten (as highly recommended by Chris) has turned out to be a memorable highlight of our tour. We not only got to customise our own chocolates to bring home, and even taste-tested many complimentary chocolates at the factory. To minimise chances of disappointment due to poor weather conditions, Chris would always check the weather forecast prior to our visits to the various mountains. He would also discuss with us on the backup plans. Apart from his diverse knowledge on the historical background of the places which he has brought us to, he also gave good recommendation on the yummy Swiss food which we should try. Notwithstanding that it was only a one-week trip, we managed to visit many scenic places with Chris’s excellent planning and several discussions (before we embarked on the tour). Our first communication with Chris was about a contest in his TST newsletter. We actually won a Freddie tour and entry to Chillon Castle, both in Montreux. In the year before our trip, we had many emails, iMessages, and even video chats with Chris. He really wanted to get to know us in order to personalize our tour days for our greatest enjoyment. WOW! They were all fantastic! He picked us up from the airport in Zurich and we toured all day, starting with Rheinfall, and then checked in at our home base hotel in Luzern. Jet lag? Not a problem! We had a total of four days with Chris. He was careful not to include things we could easily do on our own (like Pilatus), and showed us more sights than we could have imagined! Awesome places of great natural beauty along with chocolate, cheese, cookies, and history were all part of our itinerary. And we even got to zip line for our first time ever! Chris was also super helpful with the rest of our planning for our time in Switzerland. He helped us to understand the Swiss railroad system (buying tickets and actually getting from place to place) as well as helping us figure out how to organize our time there. He is funny, personable, knowledgeable, trustworthy, a great driver, and filled with enthusiasm that we got totally swept up in! If, someday, we get the chance to return to Switzerland, we will contact Chris immediately!
