After visiting a spectacular gorge, drive into the heart of Switzerland and drive over the Alps on one of several windy mountain passes such as Grimsel or Furka. Be blown away by the mountain vistas before reaching one of the gems in the Swiss Countryside – the Rhone Glacier.

This trip takes you off the beaten track, along winding country roads into the heart of the Swiss Alps! The winding mountain pass roads through sparse landscape offer stunning views of the impressive natural surroundings and ensures a memorable Swiss Alpine adventure.

We head out over the Brünig Pass (1008m) to the majestic Bernese Oberland. In Meriringen, visit the mystical Reichenbach Falls via the Funicular railway where in the book Sherlock Holmes is said to have perished.
In the village visit the Sherlock Holmes Museum. Visit Aare Gorge and cross it on a short walk on secure footbridges and through tunnels to the other end of the canyon. See the blue glacier water of the torrential river, which sculptured this impressive natural wonder in ancient times.
After some free time for lunch, you ascend the Grimsel Pass through wild landscapes. On the top (2165m), an amazing view over the Dead Lake rewards you.
Continue to the imposing Rhone Glacier located at an altitude of 2300m. Walk through the 100m long magnificent blue Ice Tunnel to reach the Ice Room – a once in a lifetime experience!
Enjoy the scenic drive and spectacular views along the numerous switchbacks before you continue to Furka Pass and the highest point of today’s journey at 2431m.
A possible addition is the Gelmerbahn which is the steepest open Funicular Railway in Europe. It takes you to the turquoise Gelmersee in just 12 minutes and one hell of a ride. Right next to this is the Handeckfall hanging bridge suspended 70m above the river below.
Enjoy the magnificent vistas over Gotthard Massif and the Urseren Valley before you descend to the mountain resort of Andermatt. Continue through the Schöllenen Gorge with the legendary Devil’s Bridge. After a last picture stop, the return journey begins.

Memorable couple of day trips with Chris from TST
My family and I booked Chris for a couple of full day trips and two other transfer days in late July and ending 1st August. Chris gave us a taste of Lucerne on our first day in Lucerne, from a vantage point in one of the mountain top hotels and whetted our appetite for more.
Chris was very good with the communications early on at the time of the booking and suggested some very good ideas for itineraries. He is very open to customising the tours as per the customer’s requirements and also accommodated any specific places that we wanted to incorporate, (within a reasonable distance of the planned route). More on this below.
Second day also included a special addition of the 2nd steepest funicular Gelmerbahn which was en-route for our itinerary that day as part of a anti-clockwise tour of the high mountain passes and stops on the way. The weather was still not playing ball as it was cloudy at the top of the funicular journey. However, we had stopped at Geissbach falls enroute for a whistle stop tour of the falls and Aare Gorge since our Gelmerbahn ticket was a timed ticket as only a limited number of people go up and return each trip. We all agreed that we could spend half a day at some of these places and still not see them fully. So, my suggestion would be to plan your stops and get Chris’s suggestions in advance to ensure that it meets your requirements. I am glad that our trip itinerary worked perfectly in spite of the rain and clouds which are obviously completely out of our control.
Thankfully, the weather started to change the second afternoon and Chris took us to the Rhone glacier, which he himself was visiting for the first time. It was at the top of the Furka pass and thanks to Mrs.Bianca, for suggesting the route and the means to get there. It was a wonderful experience as it also had an ice tunnel beneath the glacier.
Chris is very professional, courteous, on time and more importantly flexible to adapt to situations. This is the first trip in ages where we have lots of family group pics since Chris took them so wonderfully well. We had a great time overall and would strongly recommend Chris as your tour guide for your next Swiss trip, for whatever length of trip you need in Switzerland.
