We journey onto St Gallen and visit the the Abbey of St. Gall is a historic Catholic religious complex in Switzerland, established in 719. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it features a magnificent 18th-century Baroque cathedral and an ancient library housing over 170,000 documents, including 400 dating from before the year 1000.
St Gallen itself has a pretty old town with many Oriel windows and close by overlooking the City, are the three Ponds, built in the 17th century to supply water for textile bleaching and putting out fires, and it soon became popular among locals as a destination for outings and swimming.
The 4 mountains Mt Säntis, Mt Hoher Kasten, Mt Ebenalp and Mt Kronberg are all accessible and provide different experiences. The Aescher restaurant is well worth a visit.

On the route back we pop into another country – Liechtenstein for a possible passport stamp, a stroll down the main street, passed the Parliament and Government buildings and under the Cliffs where the Palace is situated. Lastly if time permits, we drive past Walensee and pop into the Laderach store in Bilten to sample and buy some of Switzerland’s best chocolate.
TRIP ADVISOR REVIEW
Highly recommended
Chris was great to work it. We started with emails and then a video consultation so Chris could understand what we wanted. He made recommendations and customized the day to what we wanted to do. He was so accommodating and fun to spend a day with. We visited the Appenzell region and Liechtenstein. A bit off the beaten path but great to see nonetheless. I would absolutely take another tour with Chris if we return to Switzerland.
