Activities

Switzerland offers some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. The Swiss Alps have to be seen to be believed and this has to be one of the most popular things to do in here. There is a myriad of mountain excursions to experience and I will list some here. However there are many more interesting, cultural, culinary, craft and athletic activities and experiences one can participate in which are fun and extremely popular.

I will list a few of them here which may take your fancy. I have personally witnessed all of these activities and can say without fail, they are all well worth a go.  Some require booking, others do not and this list is just a “taster” – there are many more cool things to do here.

    Mountain Adventures

Trips up to the mountains are a must and the following mountains are very popular half day trips using cable cars and trains or you can hike up if you are feeling fit.  Take your pic from Pilatus, Rigi, Stanserhorn, Titlis, Stoos and Burgenstock in the Luzern area.

In the Bernese Oberlands, Jungfraujoch, Schilthorn, First, Harder Kulm and Sulwald are the excellent days out.

In the eastern part of the country, there’s Ebenalp, Santis, Hoher Kasten and Kilberg and then probably the most famous the Gornergrat taking you up to see the Matterhorn in Zermatt.

    Adventure Sports

Switzerland is known as the northern hemispheres Queensland and quite rightly as there are a number of “thrill” activities one can participate in, if you have the nerves ! Choose from a wide ranging list from Paragliding, Wild water rafting, Canyoning and many more adrenalin fuelled activities

    Canyoning in the Bernese Oberlands

Wild Water rafting down the Rhine

    Paragliding in Interlaken or Luzern

    🍫 Chocolate Factory

Another “must” is a visit to a Chocolate Factory. Choose from one of several including Lindt, Läderach, Aeschbach, Maestrani and Cailler. Immerse yourself in chocolate and be sure to try some on your self-guided tours.

    🧀 CHEESE DAIRIES

Similar to chocolate is the other Swiss speciality – Cheese. Like its sweet counterpart, there are a number of self-guided cheese dairies across the country in Emmental, Gruyères and Appenzell. Plus TST knows a couple more traditional working dairies for a more hands-on visit.

    SWISS VINEYARDS

The last culinary experience is not as well-known as the food elements. Swiss wine is less well known internationally but is of excellent quality. Vineyards can be visited across Switzerland, with the most famous being the Lavaux vineyards in the western part of the country.

    Steinhausen Vineyards

    Spiez Vineyards

    Lake Visits

There are several lakes which are worth going to visit as they are beautiful and the water is so blue and transparent. Here’s 3 such ones.

    Oeschinen Lake

    Lake Lungern

    Lake Brienz

    BUILD YOUR OWN SWISS KNIFE

The last “Swiss” activity which has proved very popular over the years is “assembling” your very own Victorinox Swiss Army Penknife.  This takes place on the banks of Lake Luzern in a town called Brunnen. Here visitors can choose which knife they want to assemble with the help of a member of Victorinox staff. It’s a fun, novel activity and knives can be personalised with engraved names.
